Delta Air Lines Announces an Increase of 3 Million Young Active SkyMiles Members
Delta Air Lines has announced an increase in the number of young active members in its SkyMiles program.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, active members under the age of 40 have increased by 3 million, and engagement with non-airline partners has more than doubled. This is seen as leading to an improvement in customer satisfaction and lifetime value. Revenue from the loyalty program increased by 6% compared to last year.
Revenue reduction due to the second quarter’s Crowdstrike incident was $0.45 per share. Excluding the decrease in revenue, the performance was almost in line with the upper limit of the initial forecast. The earnings per share for the full year are expected to be between $6 and $7.
The strong travel demand and the benefits of industry-wide supply adjustments, as well as the recovery in demand for Paris after the Olympics and an increase in corporate demand, contributed to the good performance. Growth in premium revenue exceeded that of the main cabin by 9 points in the second quarter, and sales of seats other than the main cabin accounted for 57% of this year’s revenue.
