Tanigawadake Ropeway Renamed to ‘Tanigawadake Yocch’ Starting December 1
Hoshino Resorts will change the names of the ‘Tanigawadake Ropeway by Hoshino Resorts’ and ‘Tanigawadake Tenjindaira Ski Resort by Hoshino Resorts’ to ‘Tanigawadake Yocch by Hoshino Resorts’ starting from December 1.
Since March 2022, the company has been operating these facilities and aims for a “mountain rebrand,” actively promoting its appeal domestically and internationally. The name change is intended to communicate a new vision of Tanigawadake. ‘Yocch’ comes from German, referring to a ‘saddle’ or a recessed landscape between mountains. The area at the top of the ropeway, known as ‘Tenjindaira,’ is situated in the saddle-shaped mid-slopes of Tanigawadake.
Tanigawadake is located on the border between Gunma and Niigata prefectures. Known as one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains, despite not reaching an altitude of 2,000 meters, it offers stunning views of steep cliffs and overlapping ridgelines up close. It is also a treasure trove of alpine plants, including Orthilia secunda and Glaucidium palmatum.
