Japanese Citizen Robbed at Gunpoint on the Streets of Makati City, Manila

According to the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, a robbery incident involving a Japanese national occurred around 8:15 PM on November 4th, on the streets of Makati City, Manila.

Upon exiting their vehicle on Paseo de Roxas street in the San Lorenzo district, the victim was suddenly confronted by one of three assailants, who brandished what appeared to be a handgun at the victim’s head. Consequently, the victim handed over their bag and mobile phone to the assailants, who then escaped on two motorcycles.

The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines has previously issued warnings about the increasing occurrence of armed robberies in the Metro Manila area, involving weapons resembling handguns, with several Japanese nationals having fallen victim. Although the motives behind these crimes are unclear, foreigners appear to be a target. The suspects remain at large. Recent robberies involving Japanese nationals have all occurred during nighttime.
