JR Hokkaido to Close 5 Stations in Spring Timetable Revision, Including Japan’s Easternmost Station
JR Hokkaido announced that it would close 5 stations in its timetable revision on March 15, 2025.
The stations to be closed are Tōtakikawa Station on the Nemuro Line, Higashi-Nemuro Station on the Hanasaki Line, Osashinai Station & Minamihorobetsu Station on the Sōya Line, and Baikai Station. All these stations are unmanned and have seen few users. Higashi-Nemuro Station is currently the easternmost station in Japan. Following its closure, Nemuro Station will become the new easternmost station.
Furthermore, from April 1, 2025, Midori Station on the Senmō Line will be transferred to municipal maintenance.
