The Strongest Passport 2025: Singapore Tops, Japan Ranks Second
Henley & Partners announced the “2025 Henley Passport Index,” which tallies the number of countries and territories that can be visited without a visa. The strongest passport was revealed to be Singapore’s.
Based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the ranking compared the travel destinations that can be visited without obtaining a visa in advance for passports from 199 countries worldwide. Singapore topped the list with visa-free access to 195 of the world’s 227 countries and territories.
Japan ranked second with visa-free access to 193 countries and territories, followed by France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, and South Korea in third place with 192; Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden in fourth place with 191; and Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom in fifth place with 190.
Others included Australia with 189 countries and territories, Canada with 188, and the United States with 186. The United Arab Emirates, which has shown the most significant improvement over the past ten years, ranked tenth with 185 countries and territories. The dramatic declines included the United States and the United Kingdom.
Afghanistan ranked at the very bottom, with visa-free travel limited to 30 countries and territories, albeit an increase of two countries from the previous year. China has increased by 40 countries, rising from 94th place in 2015 to 60th this year.
