JAL Unveils the 4th Aircraft in Collaboration with USJ Featuring Donkey Kong for the First Time

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Universal Studios Japan (USJ) have unveiled a special livery aircraft, the ‘Donkey Kong Country Commemorative JAL × Universal Studios Japan Jet 2’ (Embraer 190 model, registration number: JA245J).

In December 2024, to commemorate the opening of ‘Donkey Kong Country’ within USJ’s ‘Super Nintendo World’, the aircraft features characters from Illumination’s Minions, Harry Potter, Sesame Street’s Elmo and Cookie Monster, Woody Woodpecker, and Super Nintendo World’s Mario and Donkey Kong. A total of 70 decals were used on each side of the aircraft, measuring 2.5 meters in height and 21 meters in length.

Inside the cabin, special design headrest covers featuring characters, and drinks are served in special design paper cups. There are also five different boarding proof stickers available.

At the event held in the Itami Airport hangar, popular characters like Minions, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Woody, and Woodpecker made appearances and performed to celebrate the inaugural flight. The first flight was today, January 14th, from Osaka/Itami to Fukuoka, JAL flight 2057. The aircraft is scheduled to operate until around June 2026.

This special livery aircraft is the fourth in a collaboration between the two companies, following the ‘JAL Minion Jet’ in 2017, the ‘JAL Minion Jet 2’ in 2019, and the ‘JAL × Universal Studios Japan Jet’ in 2022.
