Keisei Skyliner: Ride with Face Recognition to Ease Station Congestion
Hokkaido Shinkansen to Run at 260 km/h in Seikan Tunnel During Golden Week
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and JR Hokkaido announced that the Hokkaido Shinkansen will operate at a speed of 260 km/h inside the Seikan Tunnel for five days from May 3 to May 7.
The approximately 54-kilometer section within the Seikan Tunnel, which currently operates at 160 km/h, will be traveled at 260 km/h, reducing the travel time by about 5 minutes. This applies to a total of 14 trains, seven in each direction, from the first train until around 3:30 PM, and on May 3, it applies to a total of 10 trains—four in the upward direction and six in the downward direction—from the first train until around noon.
As a result, some timetable changes will be made for certain connecting “Hakodate Liner” trains and some Shinkansen trains stopping at Kikonai Station.
