Concept of Two-Story Seating on Aircraft Explored by Airbus and Spanish Startup
Chaise Longue, which is developing two-story seats for aircraft, has revealed that it is exploring early-stage concepts with Airbus.
Chaise Longue is a startup company established in 2021 in Madrid, Spain. The economy class mock-up displayed in Hamburg, Germany in 2023 features three seats arranged in a staggered upper and lower format, intended for the central rows of wide-body aircraft. Each seat is equipped with a folding table, and the lower level includes a footrest. On the lower level, luggage can be stored under the footrest, while on the upper level, it can be stored under the seat. Overhead luggage compartments cannot be installed. It was noted that seat numbers would only increase by about 5-10% on typical aircraft.
In a statement, Chaise Longue commented, “We hope to cross the skies in the near future with more comfortable and spacious two-story seating.”
