Okinawa Urban Monorail will start accepting contactless payments using compatible credit cards for rides on the “Yui Rail” from March 28.
This initiative is carried out together with Sumitomo Mitsui Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, JCB, Bank of Ryukyus, Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC. It utilizes the “stera transit” solution by Sumitomo Mitsui Card aimed at public transportation systems.
All stations are included, and passengers can board and alight by touching an enabled card or smartphone on the special readers newly installed at the gates. The supported brands include Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay.
