Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen, Nozomi Unreserved Seating Suspended from Today until August 17
JR Central and JR West have announced that from today, August 8, until August 17, during the Obon holiday period, the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi services will operate with all seats reserved, suspending unreserved seating.
The affected sections and trains are all Nozomi services running on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen (between Tokyo and Hakata Station). While passengers can stand in the ordinary car deck with an unreserved express ticket, they are not allowed to occupy a seat even if it is vacant.
Typically, the Nozomi service designates cars 1 and 2 for unreserved seating. Services such as Hikari and Kodama will continue to offer unreserved seating as usual.
