East Japan Railway Company (JR East) will run the “Colorful Fruits Trip! Yamagata” tourism promotion in Japan from September 1 to November 30.
Timed with the resumption of standalone operation of the Yamagata Shinkansen E8 Series, JR East is partnering with the Yamagata Prefecture Cherry & Fruit PR Council’s “Yamagata Fruit 150th Anniversary.” Working with 10 travel agencies, it will distribute a limited number of discount coupons for packages that include lodging within Yamagata Prefecture, and will offer a 5,000 yen discount coupon for the View Dynamic Rail Pack.
The Yamagata Shinkansen eTicket will feature special redemption rates under the JRE POINT program. Eligible sectors are between Tokyo, Ueno, Omiya, Utsunomiya, Koriyama, or Fukushima and any station at or north of Yonezawa. Example rates include: Tokyo–Yamagata Station, Ordinary reserved seat 5,000 points / Green Car 7,000 points; Tokyo–Shinjo Station, Ordinary reserved seat 8,000 points / Green Car 10,000 points; Fukushima–Yamagata Station, Ordinary reserved seat 1,400 points / Green Car 2,000 points. The valid travel period is September 16 to October 9.
In the Okitama area of Yamagata Prefecture, a “Treasures” project will be rolled out with the regional DMO (Destination Management Organization), operating on October 25 and November 28. Two courses will be offered: a package combining the Mifuchi Gorge canoe tour with one night at Akayu Onsen (43,000 yen), and a course featuring the sea of clouds at Mt. Jubunichiyama and an experience at Kumano Taisha (43,000 yen). Activities such as the Lake Shirakawa canoe experience will also be sold via JRE MALL tickets.
In addition, direct-from-producer markets will be held mainly in September at JR Ueno, Akabane, Urawa, and Tokyo stations in Japan.
