Air New Zealand will deploy its newly configured Boeing 787-9 on the Tokyo/Narita, Japan–Auckland route. The deployment period runs from May 17 through October 24, 2026.
The aircraft is configured with a total of 272 seats: 4 Business Premier Luxe suites with doors, 22 Business Premier seats, 33 Premium Economy seats, and 213 Economy seats including 13 Economy Skycouch.
Business Premier Luxe in the first row of Business Class features a fully enclosed door for enhanced privacy and a wider bed. It can be selected for an additional fee when booking Business Premier.
The Business Premier cabin has been completely redesigned in angle and layout, and adds a sliding privacy screen, wireless charging, and a 24-inch in-flight entertainment screen. Center seats feature a sliding divider, and a lift-up headrest is provided for comfortable movie watching and reading.
Premium Economy features fixed-shell seats with side wings on both sides and ample storage space. In Economy, monitors are 50% larger than before and come with a snack tray and an expandable holder for passports and documents. Economy Stretch seats with extra legroom will also be available.
All classes introduce 4K high-resolution monitors and Bluetooth audio connectivity, allowing smartphones to be used like a remote control.
The first retrofitted Boeing 787-9 entered service this May, and a total of 14 aircraft are planned for the new specification. Seven retrofits will be completed by the end of the year, with the entire fleet to be finished by the end of 2026.
