British Airways will change the redemption rates for award tickets from December 15.
The changes will apply both to bookings using Avios only and to those combining Avios and cash. The airline cites inflation and changes in market conditions as reasons. Award tickets redeemed before the change can be used under the existing conditions, but if any changes such as destination or cabin class are made on or after the same date, the new rates will apply.
By way of example, for an off-peak London–Geneva flight, economy class will require 10,000 Avios and GBP 1 (currently 9,250 Avios and GBP 0.5), and business class will require 16,500 Avios and GBP 15 (currently 15,000 Avios and GBP 12.5). For a London–New York flight, economy class will require 55,000 Avios and GBP 120 (currently 50,000 Avios and GBP 100), premium economy class will require 93,500 Avios and GBP 350 (currently 85,000 Avios and GBP 305), business class will require 176,000 Avios and GBP 399 (currently 160,000 Avios and GBP 375), and first class will require 150,000 Avios plus taxes and fees (currently 136,000 Avios plus taxes and fees).
