Railway Goods Specialty Store to Open at Shinagawa Station on Tokaido Shinkansen
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) will launch its new Shinkansen reservation service “JRE GO” around this fall.
The service is designed to completely revamp the reservation experience, making Shinkansen reservations possible in as few as four steps and in just one minute. It specializes in Shinkansen e-tickets within the JR East area and adopts a design that makes it easy to compare different trains. Changes to reservations and refunds will also be available.
According to JR East, people using the existing “Ekinet” online reservation service for the first time currently need on average several tens of minutes to complete a booking, and there has been feedback that member registration and making changes are difficult. This had become a major barrier for Shinkansen use, in which half of the reservations are made on the day of travel.
From fiscal year 2027 onward, JR East aims to link the service with Mobile Suica and JRE POINT, as well as to handle ticketless limited express tickets for conventional lines and support multiple languages.
