The Story of How JR SKISKI’s Day Trip Package was Too Good to Be True: Tokyo to Echigo-Yuzawa Round Trip for Just 2,700 Yen
H.I.S. (HIS), a major Japanese travel agency, is selling an Ogasawara cruise that fully charters the cruise ship “MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA.”
“MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA” is a cruise ship operated by Mitsui O.S.K. Cruise, with a gross tonnage of 32,477 tons, a passenger capacity of 458 people, and 229 cabins. Taking advantage of its hull length of under 200 meters, the ship is designed to easily access remote Japanese islands that are difficult for large vessels to call at. The ship, originally built in June 2010, is scheduled to be refurbished this year and newly commence service in September.
The itinerary is a 6-day cruise that departs from Tokyo Port for Chichijima Island, part of Japan’s Ogasawara Islands and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, and returns to Yokohama Port. The second and fifth days will be spent at sea all day.
Onboard, guests will be served cuisine that follows in the tradition of the dishes offered for over 35 years on the Japanese cruise ship “Nippon Maru.” For guests staying in Penthouse Spa Suites and higher categories, a “Sea Turtle Puppy Walker” program will be held, in which participants can name and release sea turtles. In addition, there will be green sea turtle releases and interactive experiences with baby turtles.
The departure date is November 23. The travel price per person, based on double occupancy, ranges from 450,000 yen to 1,650,000 yen.
