
Hokuriku Shinkansen Fares Up to Half Price: Tokyo to Kanazawa Station for 7,090 Yen
JR Central (JR Tokai), JR West, and JR Kyushu will change the service details of the early-bird products sold through the Tokaido, Sanyo, and Kyushu Shinkansen reservation services “Express Reservation (EX)” and “Smart EX”.
The applicable sections for the “EX Hayatoku 7” (EX Early-Bird 7) ticket will be expanded for travel on and after February 27. Newly added sections are between Okayama / Hiroshima and Kumamoto / Kagoshima-Chuo stations. Example one-way adult fares for reserved seats in ordinary cars include 16,500 yen between Okayama and Kumamoto, and 20,500 yen between Okayama and Kagoshima-Chuo. Eligible trains are through services on the Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen if not transferring, and, when transferring at Hakata Station, only “Nozomi” on the Sanyo Shinkansen and “Tsubame” on the Kyushu Shinkansen. Tickets can be purchased until 11:30 p.m. seven days before the date of travel.
The applicable sections for the “EX Hayatoku 21” (EX Early-Bird 21) ticket will be expanded for travel on and after March 13. Newly added sections are between Shin-Osaka / Shin-Kobe and Kumamoto / Kagoshima-Chuo stations. One-way adult fares for reserved seats in ordinary cars are 15,400 yen between Shin-Osaka / Shin-Kobe and Kumamoto, and 18,400 yen between Shin-Osaka / Shin-Kobe and Kagoshima-Chuo. Eligible trains are limited to through services on the Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen when not transferring, and when transferring at Hakata Station, passengers may not use “Hikari” or “Kodama” on the Sanyo Shinkansen section. Tickets can be purchased until 11:30 p.m. twenty-one days before the date of travel.
The “EX Hayatoku 1” (EX Early-Bird 1) ticket will also be made available for the Toyohashi–Nagoya section for travel on and after April 1. The fare is 1,400 yen per adult one-way for a reserved seat in an ordinary car. Fares for some sections will be revised on the same day. The target sections and new one-way adult fares for reserved seats in ordinary cars are 2,960 yen between Tokyo and Odawara (currently 2,800 yen), 2,780 yen between Shinagawa and Odawara (currently 2,620 yen), 1,940 yen between Maibara and Kyoto (currently 1,720 yen), and 3,520 yen between Maibara and Shin-Osaka (currently 2,520 yen). Tickets can be purchased until 11:30 p.m. on the day before travel.
