Alaska Airlines Suspends Operations of Boeing 737-9 Aircraft
Alaska Airlines has announced the suspension of all operations of their Boeing 737-9 aircraft.
The decision came after an incident on January 5th, around 5 p.m. local time, when an Alaska Airlines flight 1282 (Boeing 737-9, tail number: N704AL), flying from Portland to Ontario, was forced to return to Portland after the emergency exit door on the left side of the plane detached mid-flight. The plane was carrying 171 passengers and 6 crew members, totaling 177 onboard.
Alaska Airlines owns a fleet of 65 Boeing 737-9 aircraft. CEO Ben Minicucci emphasized that the suspension is a precautionary measure, stating that the aircraft would return to service after completing maintenance and safety checks. It is expected to take at least several days.
