Tokyo Metro and Toei to Raise Prices of Discount Tickets from March 14
The Sapporo City Transportation Bureau will introduce daily maximum fare caps for contactless payments by credit card and similar methods on the Sapporo Municipal Subway starting March 26.
This initiative is being carried out jointly with four companies: Sumitomo Mitsui Card, JCB (Japan Credit Bureau), Nippon Signal, and QUADRAC. Following the strong response to campaigns held three times since 2025, the system is now being fully implemented.
The caps will be 830 yen on weekdays and 520 yen on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. The fares for the 1-Day Subway Pass and the Donichika Kippu (weekend/holiday pass) will be applied automatically, and the reduction in the use of magnetic tickets, which are difficult to recycle, is expected to help reduce environmental impact.
Even if the card numbers are the same, rides will not be totaled as a single day’s fare if different media are used, such as a physical card, smartphone, or smartwatch. Child fares and welfare discount fares are not eligible for this system.
