New “Skytree Shuttle Narita Airport Line” Bus to Tokyo Skytree Town and Kinshicho from January 16
Tokyo Airport Transportation has introduced the “SORA” fuel cell bus manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation for ramp bus operations within Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, starting from April 3.
Because SORA runs on electricity generated by the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, it emits no harmful substances, including carbon dioxide, while driving, releasing only water. Another feature is its overwhelmingly quiet operating noise compared to diesel vehicles, which also helps reduce noise within the airport. The buses were introduced as part of efforts to realize a carbon-neutral society.
The latest safety technologies have also been adopted, including a “field of vision support camera system” that monitors the area around the vehicle and a “driver emergency response system (EDSS)” designed for unforeseen situations. Three buses have been introduced (bus numbers 815, 816, and 817).
