Lufthansa German Airlines began operating its first refurbished Airbus A380 business class aircraft on April 23.
The first refurbished aircraft is “Mike Charlie” (registration: D-AIMC). Scheduled maintenance was carried out simultaneously at Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) in Dresden, Germany, from early February. The inaugural flight was LH452 from Munich to Los Angeles.
The business class cabin is located on the upper deck. The newly introduced seats are manufactured by Thompson Aero Seating, with a total of 68 seats. Each seat is over 2 meters in length and 58 centimeters in width, and all seats have direct aisle access. Features include 18-inch monitors made by Panasonic Avionics, Bluetooth connectivity, and flexible partitions. By utilizing existing certifications, Lufthansa was able to skip a lengthy approval process.
In addition to business class, the Airbus A380 is equipped with 8 first class seats, 52 premium economy seats, and 371 economy class seats.
Lufthansa plans to refurbish all 8 aircraft in its A380 fleet. The second aircraft to be refurbished will be “Mike Hotel” (registration: D-AIMH), which features a special livery commemorating the airline’s 100th anniversary. The refurbishment of all aircraft is scheduled to be completed by mid-2027.
