Oceanwide Expeditions’ Expedition Ship Hondius Remains Anchored off Cape Verde After Hantavirus Deaths
Shuto Expressway will implement a closure on the downbound Route 1 Haneda Line between Shibaura and Katsushima from May 9 to 10.
This is part of the renewal work on Route 1 Haneda Line (between Higashi-Shinagawa Pier and Samezu reclaimed area). In case of stormy weather, the closure will be postponed to backup dates. The backup dates are May 23–24, June 6–7, and June 20–21.
Since heavier-than-usual traffic congestion is expected on the Shuto Expressway and surrounding local roads in the Tokyo area, drivers are being asked to cooperate in easing congestion, for example by refraining from using cars. Detailed information on the closure, congestion forecasts, and detour routes will be posted as needed on a dedicated special website.
Up to now, the downbound Haneda Line had been temporarily using the future upbound Haneda Line section for which renewal work had already been completed. For this temporary operation, it was necessary to connect the existing downbound Haneda Line with the renewed upbound Haneda Line, and for structural reasons, the pavement had been raised to adjust the height. After the renewed downbound line was completed on October 29, 2025, traffic operations were switched back to the downbound Haneda Line, but the now-unnecessary raised pavement needs to be removed (lowering the road surface). The main line closure will be implemented to carry out this removal work.
