Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has updated its travel advisories for several Middle Eastern countries.
The seven countries covered are the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Jordan.
Level 3 (Avoid All Travel) advisories have been issued for the UAE; Oman; Qatar; Kuwait; Bahrain; the border area between Yemen and the following governorates of Saudi Arabia: Riyadh Province, Eastern Province, Jazan Province, Asir Province, and Najran Province; as well as Jordan’s Mafraq Governorate and Zarqa Governorate. Level 2 (Avoid Non-Essential Travel) advisories have been issued for the areas along the border between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, and for all other regions of Jordan. Level 1 (Exercise Caution) is being maintained for all remaining areas of Saudi Arabia not mentioned above.
Since February 28, amid attacks between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other, strikes have been carried out against various countries in the region, and civilian facilities and other sites have also suffered damage. Although both the U.S. and Iranian governments are said to have agreed to and maintained a ceasefire as of April 8, attacks have continued to be confirmed, albeit with reduced frequency. As the possibility of further unforeseen incidents cannot be ruled out, the existing danger levels will be maintained.
At the same time, the ministry states that, in cases where there are truly unavoidable reasons—such as activities by companies and organizations that contribute to the recovery and reconstruction of the affected countries—it will not prevent people from traveling to or staying in these countries. It urges travelers to avoid approaching high-risk facilities and areas, such as U.S.-related facilities for which attack warnings have been issued, to maintain close contact with the local Embassy or Consulate-General of Japan, and to take all necessary and sufficient safety precautions.
