Fuji Dream Airlines (FDA), a Japanese regional airline, has announced the fuel surcharge amounts that will be applied to tickets issued in June.
Although routes had previously been divided into three categories, the airline has reorganized them into four categories and established a new surcharge table. In April, the market price of Singapore kerosene was 200.44 US dollars and the exchange rate was 159.28 yen to the US dollar. However, taking into account the effect of emergency measures to mitigate sudden price fluctuations, a lower table will be applied, setting the surcharge between 3,300 and 7,600 yen.
For tickets issued in April, the surcharge ranged from 700 to 1,300 yen, but due to soaring crude oil prices associated with the situation in the Middle East, the surcharge for tickets issued in May was raised to 2,800 to 3,000 yen, up to four times higher.
Fuji Dream Airlines is the only carrier in Japan that collects fuel surcharges on domestic routes. The surcharge amount is calculated based on the market price of Singapore kerosene and the foreign exchange rate two months prior to the month of ticket issuance.
