Etihad Airways and Uzbekistan Airways to Launch Codeshare Agreement
Japanese airline Starflyer and Anker Japan will begin offering an in-flight rental service for Anker USB cables from June 1.
This initiative follows the tightening of rules for using mobile batteries on board aircraft under the amendment to Japan’s Civil Aeronautics Act that took effect in April 2026. By renting out charging cables, the two companies aim to create an environment in which passengers can enjoy their time on board without worrying about the batteries of their smartphones or tablet devices running out.
Two types of cables will be available for rental: the “Anker Prime High Durability Nylon USB-C & USB-C Cable 240W (0.9m)” and the “Anker USB-C & USB-A Cable (Flow) 0.9m.” Passengers can use them by connecting to the USB-A ports (maximum 10.5W output) or USB-C ports (maximum 60W output) installed at their seats. The number of cables available for rental is limited.
Going forward, the two companies also plan to jointly create and distribute educational content on rules for bringing mobile batteries on board aircraft, as well as provide training support for cabin crew on the safe use of mobile batteries.
