JR Central Warns of Possible Tokaido Shinkansen Disruptions on June 2–3 Due to Typhoon
West Japan Railway Company (JR West) will begin operation of the new 227 series “Kizashi” trainsets in the Yamaguchi area on June 27.
The 227 series is a commuter-type DC EMU, following the “Red Wing” used in the Hiroshima area and the “Urara” used in the Okayama area. The Kizashi trainsets will operate on the Sanyō Main Line between Iwakuni and Shimonoseki stations in western Japan. The fleet will consist of a total of 24 cars: three 2-car trainsets and six 3-car trainsets, which will be introduced sequentially to replace existing rolling stock.
A commemorative ceremony is planned for the first day of service, and details will be announced once they are finalized.
