Hoshino Resorts to Open “KAI Zao” Hot Spring Ryokan on October 15
USEN-ALMEX has introduced its palm authentication service “Gen-pa” at the square hotel GINZA in Tokyo, which is operated by Solare Hotels and Resorts.
Gen-pa uses multimodal authentication that simultaneously verifies both the palmprint on the surface of the hand and the veins inside the palm, completing authentication in 0.3 seconds or less. Guests can simply hold their hand over the device without any guidance, and its wide tolerance range of 95 degrees horizontally by 116 degrees vertically, along with compatibility with dark environments, means it can be installed in a variety of locations. An onboard encryption chip immediately encrypts the captured image data, reducing the risk of forgery. This is the first time the system has been installed in an accommodation facility in Japan.
Three units have been installed at the square hotel GINZA and are used for guest registration in the lobby, user authentication at the entrance to the women’s large public bath, and staff registration in the back-of-house area. Once a guest’s palm information is registered in the lobby at check-in, they can enter the large public bath simply by holding their hand over the device at the entrance. Under the previous card-key management system, issues included the workload associated with issuing and collecting cards for staff and dealing with lost cards.
Solare Hotels and Resorts plans to use this initial installation as a starting point for accumulating operational know-how and is considering rolling it out to large-scale hotels within its group. USEN-ALMEX also aims to expand installation to other facilities within the same group going forward.
