ZIPAIR Tokyo Launches Pre-Order Model and Figure In-Flight Service on All Routes
Air Canada has issued a statement regarding the penalty imposed by Transport Canada on a former crew member over improper qualifications.
The former crew member had been promoted to captain but did not hold an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), which is mandatory for captains of large aircraft under Canadian regulations. An ATPL is a qualification obtained by passing a series of written examinations. Air Canada immediately removed the individual from duty after the issue came to light and voluntarily reported the matter to Transport Canada.
Air Canada states that all of its crew members undergo recurrent training and proficiency checks every six months, and flight checks conducted by Transport Canada–certified examiners every 12 months, and that this crew member had fully met the required recurrent training. After the problem was discovered, an audit of all crew members was conducted and no other violations were found. At the same time, the airline strengthened its administrative procedures, including physical verification of licence documents. The company emphasizes that there were no issues affecting the safety of flight operations.
Due to privacy laws and an ongoing criminal investigation, the airline says it is unable to comment further on additional details.
