Norwegian Cruise Line Holds Launch Ceremony for New Ship “Norwegian Aura,” Scheduled to Enter Service in Spring 2027
Princess Cruises has signed a contract with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for three new “Voyager-class” cruise ships.
The newbuilds will adopt a next-generation platform based on the award-winning Sphere class, with redesigned outdoor decks, guest accommodations, and piazza areas to meet the needs of a diverse range of travelers and deployment patterns. They will feature dual-fuel engines with liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the primary fuel, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants.
Each ship will have a gross tonnage of 183,000 and a guest capacity of approximately 4,700, making them the largest vessels in the company’s fleet. Construction will be undertaken at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy, and details of the onboard facilities and amenities will be announced in due course. Delivery is scheduled between the second half of 2035 and 2039.
Across the group as a whole, this brings the total number of LNG-powered cruise ships ordered to 21. Together with the seven LNG-fueled vessels scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2033, the group will continue to renew and expand its Japan-related cruise fleet.
