JR East View Tourism & Sales has announced that an internal audit revealed it had been overcharging customers amounts equivalent to travel service handling fees.
At the Tohoku and Hokkaido Regional Headquarters in Japan, an investigation was conducted on invoices for arranged travel contracts that must be kept in accordance with laws and regulations, going back to fiscal year 2018. As a result, they confirmed overcharges totaling 4,161,705 yen across 86 cases. Although investigations were also carried out at all other sales offices, no violations were found. The overcharged travel service handling fees have been explained to users individually and refunded.
Japan’s Japan Tourism Agency imposed an administrative penalty on the Tohoku and Hokkaido Regional Headquarters, ordering suspension of operations from June 13 to 30.
