Finnair held a ceremony at Chubu Centrair International Airport on June 3 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its Nagoya/Chubu–Helsinki route.
The event was attended by Hironori Kagohashi, President and CEO of Chubu Centrair International Airport, along with representatives from local governments including Aichi Prefecture and the City of Nagoya. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held together with Moomin, a popular character from Finland, and a water salute was performed to welcome the arriving flight of the day.
Hiroki Kurata, Finnair’s Japan Country Manager, commented, “We are very pleased to celebrate the significant milestone of the 20th anniversary of our service to Chubu Centrair International Airport. This achievement is also a testament to the strong relationships of trust we have built over many years with our customers, our partners, and the local community. Finnair will continue to regard Nagoya as an important market on par with Tokyo and Osaka, and will keep providing convenient services that connect the Chubu region of Japan with Europe.”
Finnair launched the Nagoya/Chubu–Helsinki route in 2006, the year after Chubu Centrair International Airport opened. Currently, it operates the route as the airport’s only nonstop service to Europe, with four round-trip flights per week (on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays) during the summer schedule.
