Peach Aviation will introduce a program on August 19 to compensate passengers for accommodation and transportation expenses incurred when major delays or cancellations attributable to the airline occur.
Eligible flights are those subject to major delays or cancellations decided within 24 hours of the scheduled departure time due to reasons attributable to the airline, such as aircraft maintenance or system failures under its control. Flights affected by force majeure, including adverse weather, natural disasters, or air traffic control instructions, as well as flights for which changes or cancellations are decided more than 24 hours before the scheduled departure time, are not eligible.
Compensation will cover actual expenses based on receipts, up to JPY 10,000 per person for domestic flights and JPY 20,000 per person for international flights, both including tax. Main eligible expenses include taxi fares when passengers arrive at their destination late at night after regular public transportation has ended (domestic flights only); accommodation costs and round-trip transportation costs between the airport and accommodation when rebooked onto a flight departing the following day or later; the fare difference when rebooked onto another airline’s flight or the Shinkansen; and hotel costs when the rebooked flight arrives late at night and accommodation near the airport is required (domestic flights only).
Applications can be submitted through a dedicated application form to be launched on the airline’s website. Passengers who have booked eligible flights will receive instructions at their registered email address and must enter their booking information and upload receipt data within 30 days of the scheduled departure date. Applications for up to nine people may be submitted together. Payment will be completed approximately three weeks after the application is received. Residents of Japan will receive an email with payment instructions, and the funds will be transferred to their designated bank account.
