Uber Technologies has entered into an operational partnership agreement with Hinomaru Kotsu as its operating partner for robotaxi trial operations in Japan.
As the operating entity, Hinomaru Kotsu will be responsible for vehicle operations management, operations at vehicle depots, vehicle maintenance, inspections, cleaning, charging, and management of vehicle operating status.
Uber Technologies, Wayve, and Nissan Motor entered into a robotaxi partnership in March. Uber Japan will begin trial operations later this year using Nissan Leaf vehicles equipped with Wayve’s AI Driver.
The service will be introduced in phases toward the future launch of fully driverless operations. During the initial phase, Hinomaru Kotsu drivers will ride in the vehicles.
