Japan Airlines (JAL) and Japan Transocean Air (JTA) will revise the applicable amounts for international flight fuel surcharges for tickets issued from September.
The two-month average price of Singapore kerosene from June through July was US$132.50 per barrel, while the average exchange rate was ¥161.63 to the US dollar, resulting in a yen-converted amount of ¥28,308. Although Zone P (based on ¥21,000) would normally apply under the applicable conditions table, the airlines will lower the applicable conditions by one level to Zone O (based on ¥20,000), taking into account government subsidies under emergency measures to mitigate the sharp impact of developments in the Middle East.
For itineraries departing Japan, with tickets issued from September 1 through October 31, the surcharge per one-way trip will be ¥5,900 for routes to South Korea and the Russian Far East, as well as the Okinawa/Naha–Taipei and Kaohsiung routes; ¥12,400 for East Asia routes other than South Korea and Mongolia; ¥17,500 for routes to Guam, Palau, the Philippines, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Irkutsk, Russia; ¥26,000 for routes to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Novosibirsk, Russia; ¥30,900 for routes to Hawaii, Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka; and ¥50,000 for routes to North America excluding Hawaii, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania.
