Japan Tourism Agency Launches Kyushu Recovery Support Discount
JR East, JR Central, JR West, JR Shikoku, and Japan Airlines (JAL) launched a joint regional tourism promotion initiative for international visitors to Japan on July 30.
As inbound travelers tend to concentrate their visits in Japan’s major metropolitan areas, the initiative will promote travel experiences that allow visitors to encounter local history, culture, and nature, centered on the Dewa Sanzan sacred mountains, the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo pilgrimage routes, and the Shikoku Pilgrimage. It will encourage multi-destination travel combining air travel, railways, and local transportation, with the aim of attracting visitors to regional areas and helping address local challenges.
A dedicated webpage for international visitors introducing the three regions has been launched. Workshops involving stakeholders and local residents will be held from around September to October to establish a shared communications strategy. Once finalized, information will be disseminated through overseas media and web advertising.
From around November, the multilingual station stamp app “Eki Tag” will be introduced in the three regions. Data on stamp usage will be used to analyze travelers’ touring patterns and support future initiatives.
