Spring Japan will revise its oversized baggage fees and size criteria for flights departing from December 21.
Currently, the fee applies to baggage with a total of three dimensions of 203 centimeters or more. Following the revision, baggage with its longest side measuring 100 centimeters or more will also be subject to the fee. The maximum size limits will remain unchanged: the longest side must not exceed 277 centimeters, and the total of the three dimensions must not exceed 320 centimeters. The fee will be renamed the “oversize fee.”
In addition, instead of charging only the oversized baggage fee as before, the airline will charge the combined total of the checked baggage fee and the oversize fee. The sports equipment fee will be abolished, and sports equipment exceeding the size criteria will be handled under the oversize fee.
The oversize fee will be 2,000 yen for domestic flights and 4,000 yen or 240 Chinese yuan for international flights.
