JAL Offers Ticket Waivers Ahead of Typhoon 26
On September 28, ZIPAIR Tokyo launched a collaboration with four partner companies, including Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA), aimed at decarbonizing air transportation and realizing a sustainable society. As a symbol of the initiative, it began operating a specially decaled Boeing 787-8 aircraft (registration JA828J) featuring the logos of the participating companies on the same day.
The participants are ACT Solutions Japan, which handles carbon credits and renewable energy certificates; BSI Group Japan, which provides certification and verification services based on international standards; NAA; and Sojitz. The five companies, representing different industries, will work together to communicate their respective environmental approaches and initiatives.
The special-livery aircraft features the logos of the four partner companies on its fuselage. The decals were created by Pangraphics, ZIPAIR’s brand partner, which handles its logo, aircraft design and advertising. Special videos introducing each company’s environmental initiatives will also be available through the in-flight entertainment system.
The aircraft’s inaugural flight was Flight ZG53 from Tokyo/Narita to Singapore on September 28. It will be deployed across all ZIPAIR routes for approximately three months.
Since launching operations, ZIPAIR has worked to reduce plastic use and food waste on board, as well as improve fuel efficiency. In 2025, the airline became the first in the world to obtain certification under the international carbon neutrality standard ISO 14068-1:2023 for its passenger transportation services across all routes in fiscal 2023. It achieved carbon neutrality by offsetting greenhouse gas emissions that could not be fully reduced through carbon credits.
At an unveiling ceremony for the aircraft held in a hangar at Narita Airport, ZIPAIR President Yasuhiro Fukada noted that “the path toward decarbonization for the aviation industry is by no means smooth.” He described the airline’s efforts to date as “merely a milestone,” adding, “The true goal we seek is a carbon-neutral future in which we can continue flying while bringing emissions as close to zero as possible through our own reduction efforts, without relying on offsets.”
He also explained that there are limits to advancing decarbonization through ZIPAIR’s efforts alone, stating that “partners who share the same aspirations are needed.” He said the four participating companies each bring expertise and execution capabilities in their respective fields.
Fukada described the special-livery aircraft as “a symbol of partners moving together toward a future in which we confront difficult challenges, and an embodiment of our commitment to pioneering a sustainable future for aviation.” He expressed hope that it would “serve as a gateway for dialogue with our customers and society about the future of air transportation.”
