
Morocco Showcases Gnawa Music and Mint Tea at Tourism EXPO Japan 2026
The Japan Travel and Tourism Association, the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA), and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) held Tourism EXPO Japan 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight for four days, from September 24 to 27.
Held at Tokyo Big Sight for the first time in two years, this year’s event was themed “Evolving Forms of Travel” and brought together 1,420 companies and organizations from 74 countries and regions overseas and 46 prefectures across Japan. Total attendance over the four days reached 183,270 people (preliminary figure), exceeding both the target of 180,000 and the attendance at the previous Tokyo event in 2024. Daily attendance was 31,500 on September 24, 38,520 on September 25, 61,300 on September 26, and 51,950 on September 27.
At the opening ceremony on the first day, Norio Kimura, Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency; Ion Vilcu, Director at UN Tourism; and Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), delivered congratulatory remarks. Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi sent a video message.
The 9th TEJ Tourism Ministers’ Meeting was also held on the first day. Tourism ministers from 10 countries participated in the first session, discussing the theme, “Beyond Sustainable Tourism: Investment Strategies for Regenerative Tourism.” The second session, the Global Tourism Leaders Meeting, was attended by the heads of five international tourism organizations, TEJ Executive Committee Chairperson Yamakita, and JNTO Executive Director Wakamatsu.
The business meetings were attended by 855 buyers and 1,019 sellers, with 6,454 pre-scheduled appointments. The exhibition featured 1,553 booths, including 597 booths from overseas exhibitors.
Tourism EXPO Japan 2027 is scheduled to be held at Tokyo Big Sight for four days, from September 23 to 26, 2027.
