American Airlines will expand the rollout of in-flight Wi-Fi service using Starlink, SpaceX’s low Earth orbit satellite communications service.
The service will be available on more than 1,000 narrow-body and wide-body aircraft operating on major routes. Service is scheduled to begin in early 2027. Although the airline announced in May that it would introduce the service on more than 500 narrow-body aircraft, it is now expanding the rollout.
Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite communications service is characterized by high-speed, low-latency connectivity. ZIPAIR Tokyo, Qatar Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, and United Airlines have already introduced Starlink.
