Narita International Airport has notified Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of new planned completion dates for construction work, including the C Runway, being carried out under its “Narita Airport Second Opening Project.”
The planned completion date for the C Runway, as well as the taxiways and aircraft parking aprons required for the new cargo area, has been set as December 31, 2034.
For the development of taxiways and aircraft parking aprons required for the new cargo area, the airport has applied to the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for permission to modify the airport under Article 43 of Japan’s Civil Aeronautics Act. The total length of newly constructed taxiways will be 7,044 meters, while the newly constructed apron area will total 823,664 square meters.
While making every possible effort to acquire land through voluntary agreements, the airport also plans to utilize Japan’s land expropriation system, aiming to begin operations in the first half of the 2030s.
The Narita Airport Second Opening Project, which includes runway development and the reorganization of various facilities in the new cargo area, is positioned as an important initiative for strengthening Japan’s international competitiveness, accommodating inbound visitors, building an international logistics network, and realizing the Airport City concept, under which the airport and surrounding communities can develop together.
The C Runway will be constructed south of the B Runway. At 3,500 meters long, it will become the second-longest runway at Narita Airport. The B Runway will subsequently be extended 1,000 meters to the north.
