EVA Air and Chung Yuan Christian University Host ‘ESG Innovation Design Competition’

EVA Air, in collaboration with Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan, has conducted the ‘ESG Innovation Design Competition’.

EVA Air uses nearly 1,200 units of air cargo pallets and containers, and 80 tons of strap and net accessories which need to be replaced annually. To foster a more sustainable cycle for these materials, the competition was initiated with Chung Yuan Christian University starting in 2023. The competition drew 333 entries in its inaugural year, indicating strong interest and leading to an expanded scope this year.

This year, the competition was divided into two categories: Spatial Design and Commercial Product Design, with participation from 26 universities and approximately 600 individuals. The design scope was broadened to include air cargo pallets, straps, nets, and now in-flight blankets as well. Creativity, integration with the environment, and practical functionality were the key evaluation criteria. After a rigorous review process by a panel of professional designers, 20 entries were selected as finalists. EVA Air provided 33 air tickets, including two round-trip Premium Economy tickets with a free choice of destination, as prizes.

The award ceremony was attended by EVA Air President Clay Sun and Chung Yuan Christian University President Kwang-Cheng Chang, and took place in the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei. In addition, a ‘Green Future’ exhibition, focusing on sustainability practices of corporations and showcasing the competition’s outstanding designs and initiatives by EVA Air, was held from May 17 for four days.

President Sun stated, “The aviation industry serves customers of all generations and continues to be at the forefront of addressing environmental issues. Facing the threats posed by climate change, it is imperative that we strive to create and offer more sustainable services.”
