Spreading Japanese Station Bento Culture Worldwide: Hanazen and Two Other Companies Trial Sales at Zurich Central Station
Awajiya Releases ‘Takoyaki Bento’ with Taiwan Rail Logo in Japan and Taiwan
Awajiya has signed a friendship agreement with Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) and to commemorate this, will start selling a special version of the ‘Takoyaki Bento’ (known as ‘Haimi Bento’ in Taiwan) from December 8th.
The container is common for both Japan and Taiwan, using dark blue ceramic with the TRA logo, and decorated with a paper wrap featuring an octopus illustration and TRA’s bear mascot. Inside the Taiwanese version, there’s a savory stew of baby octopus, scallops, and ginkgo in a takotsubo (octopus pot) style. For the Japanese version, it modifies the regular Takoyaki Bento by adding Taiwanese-style braised pork and replaces the white rice with broccoli seasoned with sesame oil, offering a touch of Taiwanese flavor.
In Japan, excluding the Rasuna Kawasaki store, the bento will be available at all Awajiya stores and their online store for 1,380 yen. In Taiwan, it will be sold for 399 Taiwan dollars at ‘TRA Bento No.2 Shop’ inside Taipei Station, limited to 70 meals per day until December 14th.
