Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport in Hawaii was closed in the evening of January 15th after the discovery of a crack on the runway.
According to Hawaii News Now, the damage is attributed to heavy rain, and repairs are expected to be completed by the morning of January 16th, local time. Hawaiian Airlines is implementing special measures for changes and other accommodations.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), in collaboration with the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) and the tourism offices of various islands, is in discussions on how to support individuals who cannot depart and those who need to detour to other airports.
