United Airlines has applied to the US Department of Transportation to launch a route from Tokyo/Haneda to Guam.
This comes after Hawaiian Airlines applied to return its slot for one round trip daily during the late night and early morning hours from Tokyo/Haneda to Honolulu-Kona. United Airlines plans to operate one round trip daily starting from May 1.
In September 2023, United Airlines argued that the slots allocated to Hawaiian Airlines for its Tokyo/Haneda to Honolulu-Kona route were not being utilized sufficiently, and requested the allocation of these slots for its own Tokyo/Haneda to Guam route. Despite Hawaiian Airlines’ claim that it would gradually increase frequency, the US Department of Transportation rejected the application.
