JR East Japan Establishes Corporate Venture Capital in Singapore
JR East Japan has established a corporate venture capital, JRE Ventures, based in Singapore.
It will mainly invest in startups in the Southeast Asia region and promote collaboration with the JR East Japan Group. A 5 billion yen investment framework is set up targeting startups that have innovative technologies and business models in the “lifestyle solutions” business area, including adtech, retailtech, and logistictech sectors. The investment will range from tens of millions to several hundred million yen per case over approximately five years.
In addition to utilizing collaborative spaces such as “TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY”, JR East Japan will participate in the startup network through coworking spaces it operates like “One&Co”, and incubation facilities like “BLOCK71”, which is a collaboration with the National University of Singapore, to make timely and speedy investments.
