Spirit Airlines Delays Airbus Aircraft Deliveries, Temporarily Furloughs Pilots
Spirit Airlines announced that it had reached an agreement with Airbus to delay the delivery of aircraft.
The delay applies to all aircraft excluding leased ones, scheduled from the second quarter of 2025 to the end of 2026 and from 2030 to 2031. This will improve liquidity by approximately $340 million.
Planes scheduled for delivery from 2027 to 2029 will be received as planned. Two planes to be received as leased aircraft in the second and third quarters of 2025 are not included in this arrangement. The option exercise period has also been extended by two years.
Furthermore, due to operational suspensions caused by issues with Pratt & Whitney engines and a planned downsizing of operations in 2025 and 2026, about 260 pilots will be temporarily furloughed from September.
An agreement on compensation has already been reached with Pratt & Whitney, expecting an improvement in liquidity between $150 million and $200 million.
