Seibu Railway to Launch Train Boarding Service via Credit Card and Other Touchless Payments by 2024
Seibu Railway will start accepting touchless payments using credit cards and similar services at select stations starting in the latter half of 2024.
The service is a joint initiative with Mitsui Sumitomo Card, Visa Worldwide Japan, JCB, Omron Social Solutions, and QUADRAC.
The service will be available at 21 stations, including terminal stations and those near tourist spots. Passengers will be able to board and alight by touching their cards or smartphones to dedicated readers newly installed at the gates. The supported brands include Visa, JCB, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, and UnionPay, with Mastercard expected to be added progressively.
QR code readers will also be installed. Passengers with digital boarding passes will be able to use the automatic gates at these stations.
