Hoshino Resorts opened ‘KAI Akiu’ in Akiu Onsen, Miyagi Prefecture, on April 25.
It is a rebranding of the former Hotel Kiyosui. The accommodation features a total of 49 rooms including Japanese-style rooms, special rooms, and pet-friendly rooms. A local feature room, ‘Konpeki-no-Ma’, offers a desk decorated with Sendai glass art, room number plates made of ‘Shiroishi Washi’ – a traditional craft, and shoji (sliding doors) in the bedroom decorated with Kokeshi doll designs, incorporating local elements. Facilities include a large communal bath with free-flowing hot spring water from the hotel’s own source, an outdoor bath with rock arrangements, a public space ‘Seseragi Lounge’, and a terrace with a footbath.
For dinner, a dining area with semi-private rooms offers kaiseki cuisine that utilizes local food culture. The price, including taxes and service charges, starts from ¥31,000 per person when used by two people (including dinner and breakfast).
Access is approximately 30 minutes by car from JR Sendai Station and about 45 minutes by car from Sendai Airport.
