Expansion of Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport: Targeting Five Runways and 400 Gates
The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced the development plan for the Al Maktoum International Airport project in Dubai.
Currently having two runways, the development reaches its second phase, with plans for five parallel runways and 400 gates. It is scheduled to be completed within ten years, and Emirates Airlines will transfer all its operations to it. The new airport will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport, with an annual capacity expanding to accommodate 260 million passengers. The total investment is 128 billion UAE Dirham (approximately 35 billion US dollars).
Residential areas will be built around the airport to meet the demand for one million people. It is also anticipated that this will attract businesses in logistics and air transport sectors.
Dubai International Airport plans to meet the needs of over 100 million users over the coming years and stated, “To realize this visionary project, we will actively cooperate with airlines, strategic partners, the Dubai government, and related parties.”
