Scandinavian Airlines to Join SkyTeam on September 1st

Scandinavian Airlines has announced its membership in the airline alliance SkyTeam, effective from September 1st, following the signing of the agreement between the two parties.

The airline’s EuroBonus mileage program will recognize Silver members as SkyTeam Elite and Gold & Diamond members as SkyTeam Elite Plus, allowing access to over 750 airport lounges, priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling among other SkyPriority services.

SkyTeam’s Chairman Andres Conesa commented, “Scandinavian Airlines shares SkyTeam’s vision of delivering a more integrated, responsible travel experience. We have been working tirelessly behind the scenes with our members to ensure a smooth transition for customers from the moment Scandinavian Airlines joins the alliance.”

Scandinavian Airlines, having announced in October 2023 the reception of investment from a consortium including Air France KLM, had expressed its intent to join SkyTeam. Prior to joining SkyTeam, it will exit Star Alliance on August 31st. It was one of the five founding airlines of Star Alliance, the world’s first airline alliance, making this the first instance of a founding airline leaving.

Shibata Hiroji, President of ANA Holdings, stated in a financial results briefing that All Nippon Airways (ANA) intends to maintain its bilateral alliance with Scandinavian Airlines.
