China Southern Airlines to Introduce 100 C919 Aircraft
China Southern Airlines is set to introduce 100 C919 airplanes from Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).
The catalog price is about 9.9 billion USD, and the contract was signed at a discounted price. The purchase price has not been disclosed due to confidentiality. The company plans to finance the acquisition through internal reserves and bank loans, among other means. The aircraft are scheduled to be delivered in phases from 2024 to 2031.
China Southern Airlines expressed that, “The purchase aligns with the national strategy and effectively meets our medium and long-term aircraft needs. It is expected to enhance our comprehensive strength and brand image.”
The C919 is China’s first domestically produced large passenger aircraft. The development project began in 2007, with the first aircraft completed in November 2015 and inaugural flight conducted in 2017. Equipped with 158-192 seats, it has a range of 4,075 to 5,555 kilometers. The first commercial flight was conducted on May 28, 2023, operated by China Eastern Airlines.
